Permanent Medication Collection Boxes
Red Med Box is an easy and secure way to dispose of your unused or expired medication. Properly disposing unused and unwanted medications helps to protect the environment. It also helps to protect our community against prescription abuse, addiction, and accidental or intentional overdose.
- What not to do:

- Pour down the drain
- Throw in the garbage
- Give to another person

- Adverse affects on wildlife
- Contaminated water supplies
- Prescription drug abuse
- Overdoses
- Theft from home or trash
After medications are dropped in the Red Med Boxes, the medications are picked up by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Narcotic's Unit to be destroyed.
Items Accepted
Red Med Box will accept:
- Antibiotics, steroids
- Cold and flu medications
- Expired and unused medications
- Liquid medications
- Medicated ointment, lotions, drops
- Medication samples
- Over the Counter medications
- Pet Medications
- Unopened Epi-Pens
- Vitamins and herbal supplements
Items Not Accepted
Red Med Box will not accept:
- Aerosol cans
- Bloody or infectious waste
- Business waste
- Electronic devices; diabetes testers, etc.
- Empty containers
- Hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, etc.
- Inhalers
- IV bags
- Needles, lancets, syringes
- Personal care products
- Thermometers
- Used Epi-Pens
