From the Desk of Sheriff Abbott – 5/19/2026
Our Narcotic Detectives received information on the location of a Wanted Felon in Possession of a Handgun. Detectives were able to locate him in a vehicle he was a passenger in and conducted a traffic stop on it for a traffic violation in Waverly Township.

Van Buren County Deputies Honored for Life Saving Actions
Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on April 9, 2026, at approximately 9:15 PM, Van Buren County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 25000 block of M-43 in Almena Township for a reported assault.
Upon arrival and investigation, deputies learned that a 31-year-old Paw Paw man had gone to the residence, where he was sprayed with bear repellent and struck with a blunt object.

Uniform Response handled a Break-in call in Geneva Township. Upon investigation, it wasn’t a break-in, but a civil complaint. One of the individuals involved had a bench warrant for their arrest, so they were lodged on it.
