Sheriff Notes December 1 2023

  • Our Narcotics Unit have been working a case involving the trafficking of meth. Detectives were able to do surveillance for two days on a delivery location in the Village of Lawrence. When the 21-year-old male out of Kalamazoo showed up with a 33-year-old female out of Kalamazoo, detectives contacted them. Both subjects in the vehicle denied consent for a search and was not being forth coming. It should also be noted that the 21-year-old was on parole. Our canine unit was brought to the scene and indicated that narcotics were present. Detectives did arrest the 21-year-old for a parole violation and the 33-year-old for misdemeanor traffic violations.  Once removed from the vehicle and being transported, the female turned over a large bag of meth she had hid in her crotch area. They were both lodged on numerous charges. The male was on parole for delivery of methamphetamine.
  • Uniform Response arrested a subject during a traffic stop for possession of methamphetamine. We continue to see a major problem in our nation with people using meth. Unfortunately, it is in our county as well and law enforcement deals with it on a regular basis.
  • Our Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant in South Haven Township for a residence they had been working for trafficking large amounts of narcotics. When the search warrant was executed, the Narcotic Unit was assisted by Uniform Response and South Haven PD.  Upon executing the warrant, the subjects would not answer the door, so forced entry was made. Two subjects were detained immediately with a third being found upon securing the scene. A large amount of methamphetamine was located as well as evidence of delivery taking place. A stolen moped was in the garage as well as other items that are believed to be stolen. Subjects were lodged for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, maintaining a Drug House, and Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property.
  • Our office is receiving $34,448.00 through the County Revenue Sharing-Public Safety Initiative (CRS-PS) out of Lansing.  The money is ear marked for specific things for law enforcement offices to use it for. Our office is very appreciative of money like this coming in and will utilize it. Any time we can obtain money outside of the county it’s a win for everyone not having to use county funds, hence, saving the taxpayers money to be utilized elsewhere in the county or simply keep it in a fund not spending it.
  • With the heavy shopping season upon us, be careful you don’t get scammed. The two most common right now are scams for fake shipping delays and unexpected purchase confirmations. Typically, these scams include a sense of urgency designed to catch you off guard in the hopes that you will click impulsively. You may be directed to click a link for tracking information or download a receipt for an expensive order that you did not place.  If you get something like this and are expecting a package, look for details such as the order number, purchase date, and payment method. If you receive a notification from a retailer, don’t click any links in the email. Instead, use your browser to navigate directly to the retailer’s official website and look up your order there. Be cautious as scammers continue to find ways to scam you.
  • Uniform Response took a larceny from a construction site in Pine Grove Township. Building materials and tools were stolen. Anyone with any information is asked to call our office.
  • Uniform Response responded to a B&E in progress in Hartford Township. Upon arrival, a female was located immediately. Shortly after a search, a male was located. Both subjects are out of Eau Claire/Baroda. They were both lodged for Breaking and Entering and Possession of Burglary Tools. The Male was also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammo.
