Narrative:
Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that at 1114hrs on 10/22/2023, Van Buren Central Dispatch took a 911 call regarding a breaking and entering potentially in progress. The victim arrived home to find her rear entry door to the garage forced open and glass all over her garage. She immediately left the scene and called 911. Deputies along with MSP Troopers responded to the call. Upon their arrival, they found a suspicious male near the scene. While investigating the break in, the suspicious male approached the officers on scene and provided a false name. Officers on scene noticed glass particles on the male’s boots/clothing. While attempting to detain the subject pending further investigation he refused to comply with orders and physically resisted the officers. He was eventually taken into custody pending the result of the investigation. Deputies, along with the assistance of MSP troopers continued their investigation. A K9 Deputy was called in for service and responded to the scene. K9 Jett and his handler ran a successful track leading to the suspect’s residence. During a search of the suspects property a hammer was located that matched tool impressions on the victim’s door. The suspect is currently lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on the above-listed charges.
