  • Last year our Narcotic Unit had 296 cases. This year, they are already at 286. Keep in mind that majority of the cases they work are felony related.
  • For the months of January-September, our Uniform Response have made 4,382 traffic stops.
  • The Investigative Unit has had 190 assistance and follow-up investigations. There are alarming numbers with some of the cases being higher than normal. To date, they have been involved in 54 sexual assault crimes in which most are abuse to a minor. They have dealt with 24 property/fraud related crimes. There are numerous other crimes they have dealt with that I didn’t list due to the amount. Through their hard work, there have been dozens of felony & misdemeanor charges authorized.
  • Our corrections staff have been busy as well. As of last week, corrections have booked in 3,246 people. We have a 213-bed capacity facility. We have been fluctuating the last few weeks and staying around the 160-165 mark with people lodged. Fun fact, Thursday is the busiest day for intakes.
  • Our Uniform Response, School Resource Deputy, and Investigation Detectives assisted Mattawan PD with an attempted abduction on Tuesday.  The 14-year-old student advised a white 4 door car with an unknown race male got out while she was walking to school and tried to grab her. She was able to pull away and run to safety. He was described as 6’5” with a thin build wearing a black jacket and hat. The incident remains under investigation and the public is urged to call if they have any information on the incident.
  • Investigators from our office was able to work with a victim of a motorcycle theft from last week in recovering it. The suspect tried to sell it on a web site. Investigators set up a meet with the suspect posing as a potential buyer. The suspect was arrested, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered.
  • Home (EmergencyProfile.org) – this is an Emergency Health Profile that is integrated into the Rapid SOS program utilized in dispatch. A free program to 911 & the public to enter information that is delivered with the 911 call to the PSAP through Rapid SOS. This program will be replacing SMART911.
  • https://what3words.com – This is a location system where the entire globe is mapped into 10-meter squares with 3 unique words for each square. This is a phone app that you can text these 3 words to 911 and we can locate you within that 10-meter square. Especially great for wilderness, lakes, rivers etc. This is a super cool free app available in both the Play Store & Apple Store.
  • There has been an uptick in counterfeit $100 bills going around. Be very aware of that and use caution if you are selling an item and the subject wants to pay for it with $100 bills.
  • Sadly enough, Uniform Response had another violent domestic assault in which the suspects children helped separate the parents. The male half was arrested and lodged for felony assault by strangulation.
  • Just a reminder that our office conducts property checks when you are leaving town. Keep this in mind especially if you go to another location for the winter. We have a property check request on our website if you’d like to have our office involved.
