Sheriff Notes October 6 2023

  • September was another busy month for the Uniform Response.   They handled 1,445 complaints which includes traffic stops in the numbers.  For the year up to the end of September, it puts their total calls for service at 9,789.
  • Our Detectives handled a case in which a 15-year-old boy was solicited by an adult for nude images.  The suspect was an acquaintance of the minor.  The suspect was charged with accosting a minor for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.  The suspect was arraigned in Paw Paw District Court on both charges and a $50,000 bond was set.
  • Our office will be participating in Operation Safe Stop the week of October 16-20th.  During that week, it’s a national push for all Law Enforcement to focus more than normal in targeting violators of running school bus lights.  With the extra patrol on bus routes, it is all our goal to reduce the number of violations of drivers disobeying the school bus lights and ultimately keep our kids safe.
  • Uniform Response took a larceny of a 90cc quad.  The kid’s quad is red with racks on the front and back.  It has several stickers on it and when stollen, the chipped key was not in it.  Anyone with possible information is asked to call our office at 657-3101.
  • Uniform Response took a UDAA of a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, blue in color.  It had Michigan plate of EDV3952.  At the same time at the same residence, 2 dirt bikes and a quad were taken.  At the time of this update, the deputy is waiting for information on them reference, make, color, VIN’s, etc.
  • Uniform Response investigated a road rage incident that turned into an Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Malicious Destruction of Property, and Reckless Driving.  Once the investigation is complete, it’ll be sent over to the prosecutor's office for review.
  • Uniform Response took a larceny of a dirt bike, white in color.  The incident happened during the early morning hours.  The deputy is waiting for more information on the dirt bike so it can be entered into the system nationwide.
  • I would like to remind the public to take photos, have all your information on items you own in case they get stolen.  If you have the serial numbers, VINs, make, model, color, etc., it helps law enforcement recover the items.  We can put all that into a database to show the items stolen, and it can be available for law enforcement across the nation.  Unfortunately, we run into the issue regularly where victims don’t know the serial number on items such as chainsaws, weedwhackers, lawn mowers, firearms, ATV’s, etc.  So not only for our information but for yours as well, please document all the information you can on items you own.
  • Uniform Response was dispatched to a business in which a subject was trying to smash out a window.  Deputies were able to locate the subject, investigate the incident, and ultimately lodged the suspect for Disorderly Conduct and Malicious Destruction of Property.
  • Uniform Response was able to locate two runaways from Oscoda Township.  The 14-year-old female and 15-year-old male was located safe and turned back over to the parents.  They were in possession of a stolen car and stolen handgun.  The original police agency will be handling the criminal portion of the complaint.
