  • Uniform Response responded to a residence in Bloomingdale Township in which they received information a wanted subject was located.  Once at the residence, they not only arrested that individual that was wanted, but four others as well.  In total,  3 males and 2 females were arrested on outstanding warrants.  Meth was also located and charges are being sought on that as well.
  • On 8/23/23 the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office worked in conjunction with the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team to locate and arrest a 37 year old South Haven man for 2 counts of 1st degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (victim under 13) 1 count of assaulting a police officer. During the arrest he cut his arms and neck in an attempt to not be arrested. He was treated at the hospital and subsequently arrested and lodged at Van Buren County Jail.  The Sheriff’s Office has made 70 arrests for sexual assault related offenses this year to date.
  • The Uniform Response as well as Detectives from our office handled a call in which an 18 year old female met a 21 year old Mattawan man on a dating site.  The two ended up at a residence in Antwerp Township where the male attempted to strangle the female.  After the assault took place, she was able to leave and notify our office.  Deputies and Detective did note the visible injuries, located the male, and after interviews were conducted, he was lodged at our facility for the offense.
  • Uniform Response took a Break In at a storage facility near Paw Paw.   Numerous items were taken including 3 bikes, pink, blue, and green were the colors.  A 1977 Harley Davidson Sportster, dark green in color, MI plate D441T, VIN 2G21050H7, no gas, key not with it, "DAKOTA" in gold lettering on the gas tank was taken.  1952 Cushman "Box scooter", red in color, no plate, VIN B39254 was also taken.  Anyone with any information on this as urged to call our office.
  • The fall KVCC Police Academy has started.  Once again, deputies from our office are assisting with instruction, and three cadets funded by a grant are attending this session.
  • We will be installing a body scanner in our jail booking area.  This will be utilized by our corrections staff, road patrols, other agencies to greatly enhance the overall safety of our office and community.
  • On June 2nd, our office took a crash north of Paw Paw on M40 hwy in which a 1 year old baby was killed and her 5 year old sister was seriously hurt.  The 60 year old Paw Paw woman driver at fault that hit the victims vehicle was recently charged with reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious injuries.  She was taken into custody by our office for the incident.
