Steps to Obtaining Passports
1. Submit a Department of State Passport Application in one of the following ways:
- Complete the online application, print it, and bring it in with you: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/forms.html
- Complete the online application at our in-office computer kiosk.
- Complete a paper application in our office.
2. Submit a Passport Photo
- You may bring in your own photo following the Department of State requirements found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/photos.html
- Have us take your passport photo for a $10 fee.
3. Provide ID and Citizenship Documentation. For a list of acceptable documentation visit the Department of State's How to Apply page: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply.html
Fees
The cost of a passport varies depending on several factors including your age, the type of passport you need and if it is a new passport or a renewal.

There are up to three (3) separate fees that you must be prepared to pay when you come into our office:
- Required fees:
- Application fee: (amount varies) Check or Money Order only payable to: Department of State
- A separate check or money order is required for each application.
- Execution (Acceptance) fee: $35 - Check, Money Order or Cash payable to: Van Buren County
- Application fee: (amount varies) Check or Money Order only payable to: Department of State
- Optional fee:
- Passport photo fee: $10 - Check, Money Order or Cash payable to: Van Buren County (optional if you bring a photo that conforms to the State Department requirements).
