SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) A designated law enforcement team whose members are recruited, selected, trained, equipped and assigned to resolve critical incidents involving a threat to public safety which would otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement first responders and/or investigative units.
The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is a select group of deputies, police officers and support staff from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and the Pokagon Tribal police and South Haven Police Departments. SWAT is used in high-risk incidents when disciplined teamwork, specialized weapons, and tactical skills are required, such as incidents involving barricaded subjects or hostages.
