The Van Buren County Mounted Division was formed in 1964. Members joined the Reserve Officers to provide the Van Buren County Sheriff's road patrol with a two man unit on Saturday nights and extra manpower at other times as needed. Members became equestrian Reserve Officers to search for missing or wanted subjects, protect crime scenes, etc. Over the years, the Van Buren County Mounted Division has represented the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office with providing security at the Van Buren County Youth Fair and presenting the colors in many annual holiday parades
Member Training
All Mounted Division members are required to complete and maintain annual training requirements as set forth by the Sheriff's Office for Reserve Officers. Members must also attend a Reserve Officer Certification program. All members are eligible to attend the Great Lakes Law Enforcement Academy.
Mount & Training
Must be physically sound, kind disposition, capable of being conditioned for parades and crowds, and tolerant of other horses. All mounts are eligible to complete the Great Lakes Mounted Law Enforcement Academy. Mounts are required to attend annual conditioning for parades and other activities.
